The efforts have certainly not gone waste for the Sullivan family! Though they have been robbed of money they had collected for their 9-year-old son, Aidan Sullivan's surgery, support is still pouring in for them.
After reports last week that some heartless person had stolen the money collected for Aidan's ear surgery, a Rockland-based foundation has now replaced the lost money.
Clarke Osborn, a volunteer with the Vincent Crotty Memorial Foundation, and Vincent Crotty's father, Peter have delivered $7000 check to the family.
If on one hand the family has been struck with the harsh reality of the darker side of human nature, the whole incidence has also the restored their faith in humanity.
While Aidan mother, Colleen, stated that she was devastated and did a lot of crying, the 9-year-old was more annoyed, and has a message for the thief, “I'm going to kick your butt!"
About the incident
Sullivan's family had organized a community fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 20, to collect money for the surgery of their son who his suffering from hemifacial microsomia, a condition in which the lower half of one side of the face is underdeveloped and does not grow normally.
The 9-year-old has so far undergone 10 surgeries to treat the congenital disorder. This time the parents has planned to use the fundraiser money for the surgery to construct his missing right ear.
But as fate would have it, someone crashed the fundraiser and walked away with some $8,000 the family had managed to collect for their brave son.
Heartbroken family sought support
The incident had devastated the Sullivan family, who were hopeful to use the donation for operation, which is expected to cost between $25,000 and $30,000.
Aidan father's Timothy Sullivan, who is a New York City firefighter, voiced his disappointment saying, “It's absolutely heartbreaking that someone would steal."
Despite the miseries, the family did not give up.
Since then, Aidan and his parents appeared on several television channels, Fox 5, and CBS 2 News, seeking support for their son.
Tapping the new media, the family has also created a Facebook page, Aidan Dennis Sullivan.
The latest wall post reads,“Aidan had a busy day today! We were in New York City and by 11:00 we were home! “tomorrow we wil begin our work of contacting everybody over the next couple days who have been our support!"
Help pouring in for Aidan
At last, the efforts have definitely paid off for the Sullivan. Not only the Vincent Crotty Memorial Foundation, people from across the nation are coming forward to help Aidan.
Some have also taken to Aidan's Facebook page, confirming their support for the 9-year-old boy.
For instance, a person named Jennifer Duffy stated, “Hi Aidan, We will be donating so never fear!!!!"
Likewise Thomas Romo, founder of Little Baby Face Foundation, commented on the Facebook page, “Dear Aidan, im sorry to hear about the loss of your money, adding that the family can contact him for help.
Wishing well to Aidan, another Facebook Karen DiMauro Clair stated that he did a great job on TV. “I Hope Aidan gets 100 fire trucks!”
Aidan operation is scheduled for March 1, 2011 at NYU Medical Center in New York City. To help the little boy, one can donate to Timothy E. Sullivan Revocable Trust.
