East Lansing, Mich. -- Edwin Baker ran for 179 yards and four touchdowns to lead 16th-ranked Michigan State to a comfortable 31-8 win over visiting Minnesota Saturday.

The Spartans (9-1, 5-1 Big Ten) held Minnesota (1-9, 0-6) to 267 total yards of offense and kept the Gophers off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter when Adam Weber threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to MarQueis Gray.

Michigan State generated 320 total yards and was an efficient 5-of-13 on third down conversions.

Kirk Cousins was 9-of-20 passing for 131 and Baker carried the ball 27 times. His three TDs in the first half staked the Spartans to a 21-0 lead at the break.

Minnesota's Weber finished with 167 yards on 15-of-22 passing. DeLeon Eskridge had 31 yards on 17 carries.
