Toyota, Honda recalling cars

Tokyo -- Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. both have announced recalls of their vehicles for a braking equipment defect.

Toyota said it is recalling 1.5 million 2005 and 2006 Avalon, Highlander and Lexus vehicles to fix a master brake cylinder leak problem.

Honda said it is recalling Acura sedans and Odyssey minivans for the same problem but didn't reveal how many.

The defective parts in both car companies' vehicles came from the same supplier, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Both companies said they had not received any reports of injuries or accidents because of the brake fluid problems that led to the recalls, the Times said.
