August delivery light, sweet crude dropped to $76.01 per barrel before gaining in late trading to close at $76.15, down 1.9 percent from an intraday high of $77.69 per barrel.
New York Harbor No. 2 heating oil traded higher in late trading, up 0.0007 cents to $2.012 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline closed lower at $2.059 per gallon, down from a prior settlement of $2.0915 per gallon.
Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 0.001 cents to $4.509 per million British thermal units.
The national average retail price for unleaded gasoline dropped to $2.722 per gallon from Sunday's $2.723, AAA said.
