Carrie Underwood creates history at ACM Awards

After winning the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award, Underwood, 27, has become the first woman to take the trophy two years consecutively, as well as the first woman to ever win twice

It was a huge night for female singers who snapped up a surprising win at the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood are the three female entertainers who bagged big trophies Sunday night.

Underwood, who shot to fame after winning the hit singing competition, "American Idol," was named country music's top entertainer for the second year in a row on Sunday.

Carrie creates history
Although the former Idol champ lost in all other categories she was nominated for, she still created the history.

Lambert won three awards, including best album, and Lady A, the top-selling trio that includes Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, was the dominant winner though, grabbing five trophies.

After winning the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award, Underwood, 27, has become the first woman to take the trophy two years consecutively, as well as the first woman to ever win twice.

Carrie’s Triple Crown
Before Underwood was again named entertainer of the year, event host Reba McEntire presented her an award- Triple Crown.

"When you won Entertainer of the Year a year ago, you joined an elite group of artists who have won the awards for Top New Artist, Top Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year," event host Reba McEntire explained. "The Academy calls that the Triple Crown. So congratulations to the newest Triple Crown winner, Carrie Underwood!"

During her acceptance speech, Underwood, who this year beat out Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, the Zac Brown Band, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, George Strait and Keith Urban, said:

"There are so many people to thank for the past five years and it all started with fans and country music being so wonderful to me," said a visibly emotional Underwood. "I never could have wished for, asked for, dreamed of more than this, and I thank God for country music. I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for my family. All the people that I work with, you know who you are. There's not enough time in the day, so thank you to anyone I have met along the way. Thank you. God bless you."
