Talk-show host Larry King to divorce wife No. 7

Multiple tabloid reports emerged recently claiming that the reason for the couple's split was an alleged affair between King and his wife's sister, a claim Southwick’s sister has quickly shot down.

CNN talk show host Larry King is headed for divorce-for the eighth time. Yep, the legendary media personality is divorcing from Shawn Southwick King, the woman who happens to be his seventh wife.

King has been married to seven different women--Annette Kaye, Frada Miller, Alene Akins, Mickey Sutphin, Sharon Lepore, Julie Alexander and Shawn Southwick King--but this is his eighth divorce, because he remarried Alene and then divorced her again.

King, 76, and Southwick, 50, wed in 1997, and they have two children together.

King heads for divorce
Popular gossip website TMZ.com has just reported that King has filed for divorce against Southwick in L.A. County Superior Court, marking the TV personality King’s eighth divorce including two from the same women, Alene Akins.

A spokesman for the CNN broadcaster confirmed that King filed papers in LA court to end the couple's nearly 13-year-old marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.

King is also seeking joint custody of their kids. His lawyer Susan Carter said, “Larry loves his children very much and will be an integral part of their lives.”

"His major concern is the welfare of his children and beyond that he'll have no further comment about the divorce," King's spokesman, Howard Rubenstein, told Daily News.

In her filing, Southwick, who is a singer and infomercial host, asks for primary physical custody of the couple's two sons--Chance, 11, and Cannon, 9--the couple's Beverly Hills mansion, as well as spousal and child support.

Southwick files her own divorce petition
King’s divorce petition on Wednesday came minutes before his seventh wife Southwick also filed her own divorce papers, also citing irreconcilable differences.

In her filing, Southwick, who is a singer and infomercial host, asks for primary physical custody of the couple's two sons- Chance, 11, and Cannon, 9- the couple's Beverly Hills mansion, as well as spousal and child support.

In his divorce filing, King lists the couple's separation date as April 13 and also asks the court to deny his wife any spousal support.

Inter-family cheating allegation
Meanwhile, rumors are rampant that the couple’s marriage crumbled because Southwick believes King cheated on her, with her younger sister.

According to TMZ, Southwick accused the talk show host of having an affair with her younger sister, Shannon Engemann, a claim Southwick’s sister has abruptly shot down.

"This is so ludicrous," Engemann told TMZ Wednesday. "She's singling me out, but Larry has been nothing but generous to our entire family, including me."

She said King was "like a father" to her. "I'm tired of taking the rap for things. I did not have an affair with Larry," and "I am not the reason for this," she said.

The National Enquirer had reported in 2008 also that Shawn cheated on Larry with her son's baseball coach.

The tabloid then reported in December (09) that King cheated on his wife with her own younger sister, quoting an unnamed friend of Southwick's.
