Washington -- Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, considered the best player in the NFL free-agent market, has signed with the Washington Redskins, the team said Friday.
The Redskins' Web site said Haynesworth had agreed to terms with the team. The announcement came Friday morning after Washington said it had signed cornerback DeAngelo Hall. The NFL free-agent signing period began at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
The Washington Post said Haynesworth's deal is worth $100 million over seven years. That deal would be the richest ever for an NFL player. The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville said $41 million is in guaranteed money.
Haynesworth played for the Tennessee Titans for the first seven years of his NFL career and is a two-time All-Pro. He had 8 1/2 sacks last season and is seen as an answer to a weak Redskins' pass rush that was 28th in the league last year.
The Post said Hall, a former Oakland Raider, signed a six-year, $55 million contract with Washington.
