Phoenix -- Two jockeys injured in an accident during a weekend race at Turf Paradise Race Course in Phoenix were released from the hospital, the track said Monday.
Jockeys Carl Williams, 44, and Alberto Higuera, 51, were hurt during the ninth race Sunday and taken to John C. Lincoln Hospital. Williams suffered a leg injury and Higuera suffered a broken collar bone. They were released form the hospital late Sunday.
The racetrack said Williams' mount, LS Sunrise, suffered a fatal aneurysm and collapsed, throwing Williams to the ground. Higuera, aboard Arizona Twist, was unable to unable to avoid the fallen horse and went down. Arizona Twist was not injured.
