London, October 16: A publicist for Madonna announced on Wednesday that she and British filmmaker Guy Ritchie are officially getting a divorce after almost eight years of marriage.
After months of denial regarding their domestic trouble, coupled with accusations of Madonna being the cause of the split of New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and his ex-wife, Madonna and Guy Ritchie are ending their marriage.
The Sun reported that Madonna and soon to be ex-husband Guy Ritchie are preparing for a public announcement and hope to have their divorced finalized before Christmas.
It was in June when news of the singer and her husband’s split surfaced together with rumors that Madonna contacted Fiona Shackleton, Paul McCartney’s divorce lawyer. This was momentarily silenced when the couple was spotted in a public display of affection during the premiere of Ritchie’s film “RocknRolla” at Leicester Square in London.
The couple is estimated to be worth $525 million, with much of the wealth belonging to Madonna. They have also acquired homes in London, Los Angeles, and New York aside from their 1,200 acre estate located in Wiltshire.
Liz Rosenberg, a representative for Madonna announced that the couple is looking to come up with a divorce settlement without going through court. It can be recalled that Madonna did not make Ritchie sign any pre-nuptial agreement which may give him a fraction of her wealth by the end of their divorce.
Leading lawyers such as Andrew Newbury, a partner in family law at Pannone believes that Ritchie would be getting far less than half of Madonna’s wealth. "It is absolute nonsense to suggest that Guy Ritchie could get half of Madonna's wealth," he said. "Around 90% of couples never get as far as a court hearing, but if Madonna and Guy Ritchie do, the court will look at what each was worth when they married, and at the wealth they have built up during their marriage, which is what will be taken into account."
Madonna, 50 and Guy Ritchie, 40 have been married almost eight years ago in Scotland. They have two children: Rocco, 8 and David Banda, 3, whom the couple adopted from Malawi last 2006. Madonna has daughter Lourdes, 12, from a previous relationship with her personal trainer Carlos Leon.
