Zurich, Switzerland -- Fifth-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska won but sixth-seeded heavy Swiss crowd favorite Patty Schnyder was upset Tuesday in first-round play at the Zurich Open.

Radwanska, world No. 10, defeated Russian qualifier Vera Dushevina 6-4, 6-1.
Schnyder, who won here in 2002 and was runner-up in 2006, fell to Czech qualifier Petra Kvitova 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
In another upset, Romanian qualifier Monica Niculescu beat seventh- seeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Also, Italian Francesca Schiavone beat Dane Caroline Wozniacki 7-6 (7-3), 6-2; Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues beat Chinese Na Li 6-2, 6-4; and France's Marion Bartoli beat Hungarian Agnes Szavay 6-4, 6-0. Bartoli will meet second-seeded French Open champion and Australian Open runner-up Ana Ivanovic in the round of 16.
Third-seeded Wimbledon champion Venus Williams play Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko Wednesday.
This week's top seed is world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic, who is seeking her fourth title in four events.
