New York -- Carlos Delgado hit two three-run homers Monday to power the New York Mets to a 9-1 victory over the Houston Astros.
Mike Pelfrey (13-8) pitched his second straight complete game. He had first career complete game Aug. 20 against Atlanta, and nearly followed it up with his first career shutout. He gave up just one run -- in the ninth inning -- on six hits with no walks.
Delgado turned in his fourth multi-homer game of the season and Jose Reyes was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Mets hold a half-game edge for the NL East lead over the Phillies, who beat the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday. The Mets and the Phillies begin a two-game series Tuesday.
Brian Moehler (9-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Geoff Blum and Darin Erstad each had two hits and Ty Wigginton drove in the lone run for the Astros.
