Cilantro recalled in the U.S. and Canada

Ottawa -- The Canadian Food Inspection Service announced the voluntary U.S. and Canadian recall of various brands of fresh cilantro due to possible contamination.

The CFIA said NewStar Fresh Foods of Salinas, Calif., issued the recall after discovering the product might be contaminated with salmonella.

The cilantro, a parsley-like herb, is packaged in 1-pound clear plastic bags under the brand names NewStar, Ready Set Serve and Cross Valley Farms with the lot number 11B056404 and a best-if-used by date of July 26, July 27 or a Julian code of 192 or 193.

NewStar said the cilantro was distributed in Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Washington, New York, Oregon, Ohio, Louisiana,
Tennessee, Arkansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, New Mexico, Alabama, California, Texas, Georgia, Utah, Mississippi, Arizona, and Florida, as well as in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba and Alberta.
