Las Vegas -- U.S. comic icon Jerry Lewis reportedly was cited for attempting to board a flight from Las Vegas to Detroit with an unloaded gun in his carry-on bag.
E! Online said the 82-year-old performer was briefly detained Friday at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas by police who confiscated his .22-caliber Beretta and cited Lewis for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
Lewis' manager told E! Online the confiscated item is actually a hollowed-out prop pistol incapable of firing.
However, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police spokesman Officer Bill Cassell maintains that if that was true, "it wouldn't be a weapon and we couldn't cite him for carrying a weapon."
Lewis was allowed to board his flight following the citation, E! Online said.
