Toronto -- Rafael Nadal and James Blake made it to the quarterfinals of the Rogers Masters in Toronto Thursday, but Andy Roddick was knocked out in a third-round match.
Nadal, coming off his stirring victory over Roger Federer in the Wimbledon finals, defeated Igor Andreev 6-2, 7-6 (7-1). Nadal is the second seed in this event, but a potential championship match meeting with Federer was foiled Wednesday when the world's top-ranked player lost to Gilles Simon.
Blake, seeded seventh, rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Dmitry Tursunov.
Blake will take on Nicolas Kiefer in the quarterfinals after Kiefer surprised fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Roddick, the sixth seed was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victim of Marin Cilic.
