Washington -- Golf pro Phil Mickelson will show budding duffers how math and science are used to play the game, U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spelling said.

Mickelson, the second-ranked golfer in the world, will demonstrate to Quantico students how angles and theories help get the ball into the cup Tuesday during a Phil Mickelson/Exxon Mobil Mini Golf Camp at the U.S. Department of Education, the department said in a news release.

Spellings said about 20 elementary students from the Quantico Marine Base will participate in "First Tee," a World Golf Foundation program that gives youth from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn golf and character lessons.

The golfer known as "Lefty" helps to sponsor the Phil Mickelson Exxon Mobil Teacher Academy that provides teachers hands-on ways of making science and math interesting in their classrooms.
