Bayside boat-themed beds recalled

Washington -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Bayside Furnishing's boat-themed beds after the strangulation death of a toddler.

Washington -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Bayside Furnishing's boat-themed beds after the strangulation death of a toddler.

The LaJolla Boat Bed and Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Beds are both being recalled after supports holding the lid of an attached toy chest failed to keep a lid from falling on a child, who died with his neck caught by the lid, CPSC said in a statement.

About 9,350 of the beds, imported by Bayside Furnishings of San Diego, Calif., were sold at Costco and other stores between January 2006 and May 2008 for between $700 and $1,400, CPSC said.

The beds come with toy chests, which attached to the foot of the bed and are shaped to resemble the bow of a ship, CPSC said.

Consumers were stop children from using the recalled toy chests and contact the firm for instructions and a repair kit.

Consumers can also call Bayside at 877-494-2536 for more information.
