Mountain View, Calif -- Google Inc. said it would construct a 1.2 million square foot campus for technology research at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif.
Google will lease 42.2 undeveloped acres of the NASA facility for $3.66 million per year in an agreement that could extend to 90 years, a company statement said.
The agreement includes the possibility that the rent could rise in the future, Google said.
Construction at the site is expected to begin in September 2013 and "is a key component of Google's strategy for continued growth in Silicon Valley,"
Google's vice president of real estate and workplace services David Radcliffe said.
Google and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration have previously collaborated on several projects, including the on-going Planetary Content project, which creates software that makes it easier to publish planetary date on the Internet, the statement said.
