Amsterdam -- A Christian organization in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, said it is providing free copies of the Dutch Authorized Version of the Bible to the city's police.

The Dutch Reformed Church Bible Foundation said it is providing free Bibles to Amsterdam-Amstelland police officers because it considers that to be part of its duty to spread the 1637 version of the book, Radio Netherlands reported Friday.
The organization said police forces in other cities may also receive free Bibles if they express an interest.

Members of the Amsterdam-Amstelland police force are already offered the option of purchasing a copy of Kader Abdolah's popular translation of the Koran.
