Ottawa -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the recall of Smith's Snack Service-brand small sub sandwiches because of possible contamination. The CFIA said the sandwiches might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes -- bacteria that can cause listeriosis, a forborne illness. The recalled product -- "Smith Snacks Small Sub" -- is sold in packages bearing UPC 6 23858 00026 0 and a best before date of "JUN / 08 / 08." The product was distributed in Newfoundland and Labrador. The manufacturer, Smith's Snack Service Ltd. of Norman's Cove, Newfoundland, is voluntarily recalling the product from the marketplace. For more information, consumers can call the CFIA at 800-442-2342. Copyright 2008 by United Press International. Post new comment |
