Halifax -- Brandon Dubinsky had a hat trick and Dustin Brown added two goals and an assist Monday to lead the United States to a 9-1 rout of Norway.
The game was in the finale of the qualifying round of the 2008 World Hockey Championship.
The USA recovered from a Sunday loss to Finland to take third place in Group F. They will face the loser of Monday's game between Canada and Finland in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Dubinsky scored once in each period for the Americans, who opened a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.
Norway can only advance to the quarterfinals if Germany beat Latvia later Monday.
Russia finished first in Group E with a 5-3 victory over Switzerland with Maxim Sushinskiy scoring two goals for the Russians. The Russians will play the Swiss again on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The other quarterfinal from Group E will match Sweden against the Czech Republic.
