Washington -- The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of approximately 22,481 pounds of ground beef products because of possible contamination.

The FSIS said the Fairbank Reconstruction Corp. of Ashville, N.Y., initiated the voluntarily recall after determining the beef might contain pieces of plastic.

Included in the recall are various ground beef products sold under the "Shaw's," "Price Chopper," BJ's" and "Fairbank Farms" brand labels. All are marked with an "EST. 492" establishment mark inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection mark.

The products were distributed to retail establishments in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact the company at 800-724-1136.
