Canada, Russia beat Germany, Swedenby MT Bureau - May 11, 2008 - 0 comments
Halifax, Nova Scotia -- Eric Staal had four goals and an assist Saturday to lead Canada to a 10-1 victory over Germany at the 2008 World Hockey Championships. Martin St. Louis had five assists and Mike Green a goal and assists for Canada, which stayed atop Group F and will play Finland Monday in the final game of the Qualification Round. Cam Ward stopped 17-of-18 shots in the win. Frank Hordler scored the only goal for Germany, which has no points in the Qualification Round. Alexander Ovechkin scored with five seconds left in the third period, beating Henrik Lundqvist and providing the decisive goal in Russia's 3-2 win over Sweden.
