Quebec City -- Dany Heatley scored with just 46.8 seconds to play Tuesday, delivering Canada a 5-4 victory over the United States at the 2008 World Hockey Championship.
The United States, trailing, 4-2, early in the third period, scored a pair of power-play goals by Dustin Brown and Jason Pominville just 1:36 apart to tie the game.
In the closing minute, Ryan Getzlaf fired a quick pass from the left circle to Heatley, who sent it past Tim Thomas. The Canadians survived a U.S. power play at the end to hang on for the win.
The victory gives Canada first place in Group B heading into the Qualification Round beginning Thursday. The United States finished second.
Russia, with a goal and an assist by Sergei Fedorov, beat Denmark 4-1 for its third straight win to take first place in Group D.
