Princeton, N.J., -- A Gallup poll indicated that an increasing number of U.S. adults are feeling the effects of food price increases.
Less wealthy respondents in the poll, those who said they make less than $30,000 a year, were more likely to indicate food price increases were a burden, Gallup said.
Overall, 46 percent of the respondents in the poll conducted April 18-20, indicated food inflation was a "hardship."
The percentage increases disproportional to income. In the survey, 28 percent of those who said they make more than $75,000 a year and 64 percent of those listed as making less than $30,000 a year indicated food price increases were a "hardship."
The numbers "debunk the idea" that "only the poorest of the poor" are affected by food price increases, the report said.
The results of the poll, done in partnership with USA Today, were based on 1,016 interviews and come with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
