Orlando, Fla. -- A married couple said their Walt Disney World vacation in Florida was saved by hotel employees who recovered three rings that were accidentally thrown away.
Paul Campanale said he was bound for an unpleasant trip home to Worcester, Mass., after he accidentally threw away a cardboard bowl containing his wife's engagement, wedding and 5-year anniversary rings, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel
reported Tuesday.
"We weren't speaking," said his wife, Karen. "At least, I wasn't speaking to him."
The Campanales said they were told the garbage may have already gone to the compactor, and if that was the case, the rings were likely gone for good. However, Paul Campanale said he received a call on his cell phone while he, his wife and their two children -- Jack, 6, and Emma, 3 -- were riding the bus to the airport.
Wilderness Lodge executive housekeeper Drew Weaver said he discovered the trash from the room had not gone to the compactor, but rather to a bin beside the road. He organized a search party of seven employees and they rifled through the bags until the rings were found.
Karen Campanale said the rings are still in pristine condition.
"I was shocked," she told the Sentinel. "That's five-star service."
