New York -- The proposed move of the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics to Oklahoma City was approved Friday by the league's board of governors.

Its vote came despite two lawsuits against the Sonics' ownership group, one filed by the city of Seattle.
The Seattle Times reported that it is subject to the resolution of any pending litigation.
"The support for the NBA demonstrated by the fans, government leaders and business community of Oklahoma City over the last three years has been extraordinary," said NBA Commissioner David Stern in a statement. "The board of governors is confident that that level of local support will result in success for the Sonics franchise in Oklahoma."
Stern has long been in favor of the franchise's relocation.
Former Sonics owner Howard Schultz has announced plans to sue the current ownership to get the team back, saying that the new owners violated the sale contract by not making a good-faith effort to keep the team in Seattle.
