Cuba creating new TV stationby MT Bureau - April 11, 2008 - 0 comments
Havana -- Cuban state media Thursday announced plans to create a new TV channel with foreign content for audiences on the communist island, Granma newspaper reported. The 24-hour channel by the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television will reportedly feature a variety of programming, though its content will still be subject to state approval. TV and print media are strictly controlled in Cuba. However, new Cuban President Raoul Castro has made some reforms in recent weeks that appear to be an attempt to open up some sectors of Cuban society. The government announced last month it would allow Cubans to own cell phones and computers. Copyright 2008 by United Press International. Post new comment |
