Miami -- Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade will miss the rest of the season because of a left knee injury.
Wade underwent surgery on the knee after last season but has recently complained of soreness. He sat out a game Friday but played Saturday and scored 24 points and had eight assists in a 97-94 loss to Atlanta.
On Monday, the team announced Wade would miss the rest of the season. He is scheduled this week to undergo a shock wave treatment on the knee. While the procedure, called OssaTron treatment, is non-surgical, Wade will be limited to passive exercise for 30 days, after which he could slowly return to basketball-related activities, the Heat said.
Wade has appeared in 51 games this season, averaging a team-leading 24.5 points and 6.9 assists. His scoring average is fifth-best in the NBA.
Miami is 11-50 this season -- the worst record in the NBA -- going into a Monday game with the Los Angeles Clippers.
