Washington -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Walker's- and Kay's-brand four bean salad because of potential bacterial contamination.

The FDA said the Walker's Food Products Co. of North Kansas City, Mo., initiated the recall of its 16-ounce, 5-pound and 10-pound containers of four bean salad because of potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause illness or death.

The recalled salad was distributed in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa.
The product in the 16-ounce containers was packaged under the Kay's Gourmet brand name, while the salad in 5-pound and 10-pound containers were packaged under the Walker's Food Products Co. brand name.

The containers are round clear plastic packages, which have an expiration date stamped on the bottom surface. The expiration dates subject to recall are "12/23/07" through "04/5/08."

Consumers can return the salad to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact the company at 800-725-2372.
