Warren Sapp ends NFL career

Oakland, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp's 13-year pro career officially ended Tuesday.

Throughout his 13 NFL seasons, Sapp was a Pro Bowl selection seven times with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was voted the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999 and played a key role on the Bucs' Super Bowl championship team during the 2002 season.

Sapp became a free agent after the 2003 season. He joined the Raiders for the 2004 campaign.

Sapp, 35, finished his career with 96 1/2 sacks. The only tackle in league history with more sacks is retired Minnesota Viking John Randle with 137.5. Sapp also had four career interceptions and scored his lone touchdown during his rookie season.

The 303-pounder finished the 2007 season with only two sacks to his credit. He also was given two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for fighting with Derrick Burgess and got ejected from the second to last game of his career.
