Lawrence, Kan. -- Kansas University football Coach Mark Mangino is back at work after recent medical tests, the nature of which have not been disclosed.

Mangino was discharged Monday from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an overnight stay for observation.

"I underwent some tests," he said in a statement before his Tuesday return. "These are tests that I had put off until after the season. The tests have been completed, I'm fine and (I'm) recruiting."

Reports indicated the tests were not cardiac related.

Mangino led the Jayhawks to a 12-1 record last season, his sixth at the Big 12 school, and was named American Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year. The 12 wins -- including a 24-21 victory over Virginia Tech Jan. 3 at the Orange Bowl -- established a KU school record.

A report last fall by the Kansan, the school newspaper, said Mangino is the lowest-paid coach in the conference, earning less than $1 million annually.
