Chinese-made supplement recalled in Canada

Ottawa -- Health Canada is warning Canadians not to use a Chinese-made supplement called Yeniujyn because of a health hazard.

Ottawa -- Health Canada is warning Canadians not to use a Chinese-made supplement called Yeniujyn because of a health hazard.

Officials said the supplement -- sold "to cure involuntary passage of urine diseases" -- contains high levels of lead and arsenic, posing a serious health risk for consumers.

Health Canada said the product -- manufactured by Kwangchow United Manufactory of Chinese Medicine and promoted for use by adults and children -- is not authorized for sale in Canada, but has been available at retail stores and over the Internet.

The Canadian distributor of Yeniujyn, Wing Quon Enterprises Ltd., has recalled the health supplement and Health Canada advised consumers who have used Yeniujyn and are concerned about their health to contact a health practitioner for advice.

Consumers wanting more information about the product can contact Health Canada at 613-957-2991 or toll free at 866-225-0709.
