Indianapolis -- The NCAA and Collegiate Commissioners Association have established a group to oversee college football officiating.
The group, to be known as College Football Officiating, has the primary objective of making sure game officials and conferences follow NCAA and CCA guidelines, the associations said in a release Friday.
The CFO will be governed by a 15-person board with 11 representatives from Division I Bowl Subdivision, two members from Division I Championship Subdivision conferences and two individuals selected by the NCAA president.
The Division I Bowl Subdivision was formerly known as Division I-A and the Championship Subdivision used to be referred to as Division I-AA.
"This cooperative effort, which has been in the planning stages since the summer of 2006, enhances the existing strong system in place across conferences and will better position the officiating community in the future," said Tom Jernstedt, NCAA executive vice president and chairman of the board of managers of CFO.
