New York -- Longtime NFL coach Bill Parcells said he would "probably" be joining the front office of the Atlanta Falcons.
Parcells told the New York Daily News that he was talking with Falcons owner Arthur Blank about taking over team's football operations. He told the newspaper he wouldn't be the head coach, however.
"I think I probably will do it," Parcells told the Daily News. "The job description is to be the football operations overseer. We still have a little work to do, but I don't think it's anything major. I don't expect any real deal-breaker. I don't think there will be any major hangups."
He said he would hire a general manager and then turn to selecting a new head coach.
Emmitt Thomas was named the team's interim head coach after Bobby Petrino abruptly resigned the position to return to the college ranks as the coach at Arkansas.
Parcells had an overall head coaching mark of 172-130-1 in the regular season with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, New England Patriots and New York Giants, winning Super Bowl titles after the 1986 and 1990 seasons during an eight-year run with the Giants.
