Washington -- The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of approximately 98,772 pounds of braunschweiger, or liver sausage, due to a labeling error.
The FSIS said Specialty Foods Group Inc., of Owensboro, Ky., initiated the recall because the smoked liver sausage might contain undeclared nonfat dry milk, posing a danger to people allergic to dairy products.
Being recalled were 16-ounce chubs of Scott Petersen-brand Braunschweiger. Each label display's a sell-by date of "Dec 08 2007," "Dec 15 2007," "Dec 22 2007," ""Dec 29 2007," "Jan 05 2008," "Jan 12 2008," "Jan 19 2008" or "Jan 26 2008."
The liver sausage products were distributed to retail establishments in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and in Burnsville, Minn.
