The 62-year-old Jackson, who led the Lakers to three NBA titles early in this decade, is to be paid $11 or $12 million per year, The Los Angeles Times said.
Jackson is in the final year of a three-year $30 million contract.
"Everyone connected with Phil is pleased with his decision, something that only he could make after considering all aspects of what it means to be a head coach," Todd Musburger, Jackson's agent, said in the newspaper's report. "Obviously, he's up for it. There is a spring in his step."
