HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Matt Kenseth won the season-ending Ford 440 at Homestead-Miami Speedway Sunday, as Jimmie Johnson captured his second straight Nextel Cup.
Kenseth finished 0.852 second ahead of Kurt Busch for his second win of the season and the 16th of his Cup career.
Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards completed the top-five finishers.
Johnson, starting in the pole position, finished seventh when he needed only an 18th or better to win the Cup. He won by 77 points over Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon to become the first repeat champion since Gordon in 1997-98.
"It's a testament to these guys and everybody at Hendrick," said Johnson crew chief Chad Knaus.
Clint Bower was third, Kenseth fourth and Kyle Busch finished fifth in the Chase.

Congrats to JJ. He deserves to win especially with how he's been racing the past few weeks. I'm glad Kurt Busch placed well. His Dodge has been fast all year and put him in position to win a few times- but was unlucky more than anything. I'm thinking Penske is looking pretty strong for next season with how Ryan and Kurt have been running.
