Winston-Salem, N.C. -- Josh Adams ran for 136 yards and Riley Skinner threw two touchdown passes Thursday night, as Wake Forest shocked No. 21 Florida State, 24-21. The Demon Deacons defeated the Seminoles for the second straight year and for only the fourth time in 26 meetings. Adams scored on an 84-yard run to give Wake Forest the early lead, but the Seminoles rallied for a 14-7 halftime advantage. Skinner tied the game by hitting Adams with a 7-yard throw at the end of a 65-yard march, and he drove the Deacons 82 yards in the fourth period -- hitting Kenneth Moore with a 35-yard pass for the go-ahead score. Sam Swank added a 48-yard field goal with 1:40 to play, giving Wake Forest a 10-point lead. Florida State scored with 17 seconds left on a 17-yard run by Xavier Lee, but the Seminoles could not recover the ensuing onside kick. Wake Forest opened the season with consecutive losses, but has now won four in a row and improved to 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State (4-2, 1-2) had a four-game winning streak halted. © Copyright United Press International. Post new comment |
