Los Angeles -- U.S. pop star Britney Spears is "very optimistic" she will again share physical custody of her two young sons with their father, her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Spears' friend, Sam Lufti, told People.com the singer thinks she will get her boys back once she follows the presiding judge's orders.
A judge has awarded full custody of the children to Federline until further notice after Spears neglected to follow his orders to obtain a valid California driver's license, sign up for parenting classes and drug counseling, and submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
"We ... signed all the necessary documents that she needed to get done," Lufti said, adding Spears is "in a good mood, no problems, very optimistic."
Lufti told the magazine a misunderstanding led to Monday's ruling.
"Scheduling conflicts and errors in communication led her to believe that her deadline was later this week rather than (Monday,)" Lufti said. "However, once we finally realized what was going on, we completed the list of tasks. ... So everything's looking good."
A Department of Motor Vehicles spokesperson confirmed Spears has a pending application for a California license, but said she cannot yet legally drive in the state.
