Mexico City -- Indian chess player Viswanathan Anand is the newest world chess champion thanks to a dominating performance at the championship in Mexico.
The world's top-ranked chess player did not lose a single round in the World Chess Championship through Round 13 and eventually took home the championship crown for the second time in his professional career, The New York Times said Sunday.
Anand previously had won the World Chess Federation’s championship in 2000, before one united chess crown was instituted last year.
Because of that technicality, Anand was forced to share the glory of being the world's best chess player with another competitor.
But after taking the final round of this year's championship in Mexico City Saturday, Anand can now officially say he is the world champion of chess for the next year.
