CONCORD, N.H. -- A New Hampshire U.S. District judge felt so egged on by a boiled egg he got in the mail that he responded with a speech a la Dr. Seuss's "Green Eggs and Ham."

In poem, judge begs for end to eggGet original file (8KB)

Judge James Muirhead was presiding over a lawsuit by New Hampshire prison inmate Charles Wolff who said he was repeatedly served boiled eggs even though he said he does not eat them, the Boston Globe reported Sunday.

The convicted child rapist, who received the prison's standard kosher diet, was so frustrated he kept being fed the eggs -- he requested doughnuts and danishes instead -- that he mailed one to the judge asking for an injunction preventing them from being included in his meals.

In response, Muirhead delivered a verse he penned himself.

"I do not like eggs in the file," Muirhead wrote, the Globe reported."I do not like them in any style. I will not take them fried or boiled. I will not take them poached or broiled. I will not take them soft or scrambled / Despite an argument well-rambled."

Finally, the poem demanded -- in rhyme -- the destruction of the offending egg.

The poem proved persuasive enough to bring the prisoner to apologize.
