DOVER, Del. -- Carl Edwards captured Sunday's Dodge Dealers 400 Nextel Cup auto race at Dover, Del., by 0.617 seconds over teammate Greg Biffle.
The victory, in the second race of the 10-race "Chase for the Nextel Cup," was Edwards'' third this season and seventh of his "Cup" career. It was worth $229,250.
With 112 laps left, Edwards led Mark Martin by 1.413 seconds -- just before he headed to pit road for four tires and fuel -- and was able to win the race in his No.99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford with a solid stretch run.
"I wanted this win bad. This is the Chase," Edwards said. "It's just a fun race track."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was third, Martin fourth and Kyle Busch fifth.
Co-points leader Jimmie Johnson, the pole winner, finished in 14th place.
