Setzer first stepped into the limelight with the Stray Cats trio in the 1980s, he then went on to form his current 18-piece orchestra in 1992, the New York Post reported Sunday.
His latest album sees the band rework classical favorites like Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," into swing showpieces.
Revealing his secrets to the Post, Setzer told how he usually comes up with ideas for music.
"I usually get ideas like that when I'm just sitting around playing my guitar. I started playing the 'The Blue Danube' waltz by Strauss. I went and overdubbed several guitar parts on it, and my wife said, 'You know, that's really good!'"
