Harry and David chili mix soup is recalled

Washington -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the nationwide recall of 1,440 bags of Harry and David Hearthside Soups, Southwestern Chicken Chili Mix.

The Harry & David Operations Corp. of Medford, Ore., said the product might contain another chili soup mix, and thus also contain a milk ingredient (whey) that isn't declared in an ingredient statement, posing a health risk for people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy products.

The recalled soups, with a 8221-1 lot code, are packaged in clear plastic 12- to 16-ounce bags that are each tied at the top with a cream-and-red ribbon. The company said the price sticker states "Fajita Chili." The product was made for Harry & David by Conifer Specialty Inc., a co-packer.

The FDA said the problem occurred when bags labeled for a previous run of Southwestern Chicken Chili Mix were inadvertently used for a subsequent run of Fajita Chili Mix, which contains a milk ingredient not declared on the Southwestern Chicken Chili Mix ingredient statement.
