Hudson may join 'Sex and the City' movie

 New York -- Oscar-winning

New York -- Oscar-winning "Dreamgirls" actress Jennifer Hudson is close to signing on for a part in the upcoming "Sex and the City" movie.

The former "American Idol" contestant is expected to play writer Carrie Bradshaw's assistant in the movie, E! Online reported Monday. Bradshaw was portrayed in the hit HBO comedy series by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Parker and her TV co-stars Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have all signed on to reprise their roles for the big-screen edition of "Sex."

Hudson's representative confirmed the report for E! Online, adding, "She's very excited."

The Web site reported last month Bradshaw would be hiring some new help in the movie because her career has blossomed since we last saw her.
