Ground beef recalled in New England

Washington -- The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of approximately 884 pounds of ground beef products due to possible contamination.

The Fairbank Reconstruction Corp. -- doing business as Fairbank Farms of Ashville, N.Y. -- initiated the voluntary recall because the ground beef might be contaminated with E. coli bacteria, the U.S. Department of Agriculture service said.

Being recalled were 1.33-pound trays of Shaw's ground round beef patties. Each package bears the establishment number "Est. 492" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each label bears a time stamp between "17:05" and "17:25," as well as a date code of "243."

The recalled ground beef was distributed to retail stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Consumers with questions can contact the company at 816-716-3543 or toll-free at 800-724-1136.
