Indianapolis -- Reggie Miller, a five-time NBA All-Star who retired from the league in 2005, has ruled out returning to basketball as a player.

The Boston Celtics had talked with Miller about returning for a limited role as a player. But Miller, who turned 42 Friday, told the Indianapolis Star he wasn't going to make a comeback.

He had reportedly been in training to see how he could stand up to the long NBA season.

"That's it," Miller told the newspaper by telephone from his home in Malibu, Calif. "Physically, I know I could have done it. But mentally, when you do something like this, you've either got to be all in or all out. And I've decided I'm all out."

Miller averaged 18.2 points a game over 18 NBA seasons -- all with the Pacers. He is the NBA all-time leader in three-point shots (2,560) and his 25,279 total points is 13th in NBA history.
