New York -- Former Fat Joe's Terror Squad rapper Remy Ma turned herself into police Saturday after allegedly shooting a friend in a row over $2,000 in New York.

Ma is a Grammy-nominated recording artist who has worked with Eminem, R. Kelly and Fat Joe, but 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph identified her as the woman who shot her twice in the mid-section in Manhattan's trendy Meatpacking District, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

The singer allegedly shot Barnes-Joseph because she thought she took $2,000 from her purse when they were at a birthday party earlier in the evening.
Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, was charged with attempted murder, assault and possession of a weapon.

"These are merely allegations," said her attorney, Scott Leemon. "Remy denies them adamantly."

The 27-year-old hip-hop artist and mother of two has been arrested several times since 1996 for weapons possession, assault and other crimes.
Barnes-Joseph was in stable condition at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan Saturday.
