London -- The 14 Tesco supermarkets in Britain that closed temporarily this weekend in response to a bomb scare officially reopened Sunday.
While business resumed at the 14 British stores, some reports said Saturday's bomb scare may have been linked to animal rights groups in Britain, The Sunday Mail said.
Several animal rights groups had designated Saturday as a national day of action in which Tesco would be targeted for allegedly selling live turtles at its Chinese branches.
A police spokesman said extremism likely was not linked to the bomb scare, but added the situation would be investigated further by regional police and Tesco's head office.
"While the public are advised to remain vigilant we have no reason to believe that the incidents are linked to extremism of any kind," the spokesman said.
"The constabulary has taken the investigation forward as Tesco has its head office in Hertfordshire. Every effort is being made to trace those involved."
