Phoenix -- San Diego Padres ace Jake Peavy missed his scheduled start Sunday at Arizona because of sore right biceps.
The move is a precautionary move for the All-Star right-hander. It gives him a chance to rest his arm an extra two days before facing the New York Mets Tuesday.
"We felt as though it's probably in the best interest of Jake and the club just to push him back a couple days, let his arm rest," Manager Bud Black said on the team's Web site. "He went at it pretty hard in the first half, and his arm was getting a little weary."
"You want to get your rest while we can," Peavy said. "It doesn't hurt the team."
Peavy is 9-3 with an ERA of 2.19 this season, with 34 walks and 125 strikeouts in 119 innings. He struck out a career-high 16 batters against Diamondbacks April 25.
His replacement, Justin Germano, hurled 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a 4-0 win.
